| P·P·O·W is pleased to announce a show of recent paintings by Diana Horowitz. Horowitz works on canvas or panel on a small scale in the tradition of the open-air oil sketch. Her deftly made, fully realized paintings of urban landscapes are quietly expansive renderings of the architecture of city streets, industrial sites along New York’s commercial waterways, and the rooftops of Brooklyn. She focuses on liminal and often unnoticed places with an unassuming painterly ease. A Brooklyn native, Diana Horowitz has exhibited her work in numerous galleries and museums nationally. She has been the recipient of grants and awards from the Ballinglen Foundation, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, among others. This year she was the recipient of the Edwin Paler Memorial Prize from the National Academy of Design. & selected work from 21 years of P·P·O·W history: P·P·O·W’s main gallery will contain an exhibit highlighting works by artists that have shown at P·P·O·W over the last 21 years. P·P·O·W was opened in the East Village in 1983 by Penny Pilkington and Wendy Olsoff. In 1988 the gallery moved to SoHo and in 2002, P·P·O·W moved to its present location in Chelsea. Since its inception the gallery has remained true to its early vision, showing contemporary work in all media. There is a commitment to representational painting and sculpture; and artists who create work with social and political significance. Some of the artists included here were first exhibited in P·P·O·W’s small East Village storefront space. More recent artists exhibited in the gallery's locations in SoHo (from Broadway to Broome Street) and today on Chelsea’s 25th Street. The artists shown will include: Karen Arm, Margaret Curtis, Judy Fox, Julie Heffernan, Dinh Q. Lê, Walter Martin, Carrie Mae Weems, David Wojnarowicz, Martin Wong and Thomas Woodruff.
